Evelyn Johnson, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, November 4, 2011, in her residence at the age of 100 years.
Ethel Evelyn Johnson was born on May 13, 1911, in Hunnewell, Oklahoma, to Porter Corn and Lillie Burgett Corn. She married Harvey M. Johnson on April 10, 1929, in Enid, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1998. She was a farmer's wife and would prepare food for workers in the field as well as run the equipment. She enjoyed quilting, raising chickens and her collections of cows, chickens and John Deere memorabilia. She was well known for her homemade chicken and noodles and homemade potato chips. She was a member of the Prairie Chapel Methodist Church for seventy-five years.
Evelyn is survived by one son, Jerry Johnson and wife Kathleen of Ponca City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Betty Howard and Mary Cormack; two son-in-laws, Keith Howard and Charles Cormack; four grandsons, Raymond Howard, Harold Johnson, Mike Johnson and Mark Cormack; and one sister, Ernestine Marshall.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Sharon Cochran, Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.
A memorial has been established with Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 West Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
