Eva Elsie Sawyers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, June 6, 2011, in the Ponca City Nursing Home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 100 years.
Eva Elsie Sawyers was born on October 1, 1910, in Chouteau, Oklahoma, to Abe and Bertha (Barris) Bledsoe. She grew up in Chelsea attending Chelsea Public Schools. She married Robert Lee Sawyers on July 20, 1929, in Hominy, Oklahoma, and they moved to Blackwell in 1942 where she served her family as a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on February 11, 2004, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She enjoyed reading, gardening and baking pies.
She is survived by two daughters, Daisy Dester of Abilene, Kansas, and Bertha Sanders of Topeka, Kansas; two sons, Robert Sawyers Jr. of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Dennis Sawyers of Enid, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Stella Freeman, Jessie Bushong and Kathleen Allen; and a brother, Sonny Bledsoe.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9th in the Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Dan Sharp of Image Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
The grandchildren of Eva Sawyers will serve as honorary casketbearers.
