Eugene Roy Orr was born on June 29, 1941, in Doniphan, Missouri, to Ray Laverne and Docia Pauline (Wilson) Orr. He grew up in Doniphan attending Doniphan Public Schools. He entered the United States Army in 1958. He married Carol Jean Boullion on June 2, 1962, in El Paso, Texas, and they settled in Germany where he was stationed. They later moved to Michigan where he retired as a First Sergeant from the regular army after nine years and entered the National Guard. They then moved to Tonkawa where he joined the Tonkawa Guard Unit before moving to Blackwell to make their home. While in Blackwell they operated Orr's Upholstery for twenty-eight years. He also taught evening classes in upholstery for the Pioneer Area Vo-Tech in Ponca City for several years. He enjoyed fishing and rock collecting.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Orr of Blackwell; a daughter, Rebecca Allen of Blackwell; two sons, Gene Orr Jr. of Ponca City and Michael Orr of Ponca City; a sister, Aloma Ferassi of Michigan; three brothers, Jimmie Orr and Jerry Orr of Doniphan, Missouri and Sammy Orr; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City with Ed Lobaugh officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Blackwell Cemetery with full military honors being presented by the United States Army from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Charlie Steichen, Jimmie Orr, Sammy Orr, Jerry Orr, Kenny Boullion and Ed Humble.
A memorial has been established at the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
The family will be gathering at the home of Mike Orr, 2412 Rice Street, Ponca City, Oklahoma.
