Esther Marie Rogers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 74 years.

Esther Marie Rogers was born on May 26, 1934, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Lester Vernon and Kathryn Marie (Swisher) Barr. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating as her senior class secretary-treasurer in 1952. Following her education she began working at Kress Department Store in Blackwell. She married Dolton W. Rogers on March 5, 1954, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell where she began working as an administrative secretary for Consolidated Gas Company. In the early 1960's she began working for Kay Electric Cooperative as an administrative secretary and worked there until 1980 when she retired to care for her mother. In 1983 she began working as a bookkeeper for Ken's Auto Supply before working as a bookkeeper at Dale and Associates in Blackwell. She was currently working as a bookkeeper for the Blackwell Cemetery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Blackwell Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed bird watching, crossword puzzles, various handcrafts and reading. She won numerous ribbons for her handcrafts each fall in the Kay County Fair.

She is survived by her husband, Dolton W. Rogers of Blackwell; a daughter, Cindy Clark of Blackwell; a son, Russell Rogers of Blackwell; a sister, Maurita Grimm of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a brother, Robert Barr of Loyal, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Kelli and Cole Rogers of Blackwell and Sean Clark of Blackwell; and a great grandchild, Kendyn Rogers of Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Dennis Rogers.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 22nd in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Russell Bracy of Ft. Worth, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Opportunity Center in Ponca City or the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
