Obituary

Dorothy J. (Toner) McClung of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, April 20, 2008, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 86 years.

Dorothy J. (Toner) McClung was born on December 26, 1921, on a farm near Manchester, Oklahoma, to Clare L. and Ethel (Connery) Toner. She attended Fairview and Gore rural schools and graduated from Wakita High School in 1939. She then attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. During World War II she worked in the drafting department at North American Aviation in Kansas City. While in Kansas City she attended the Kansas City Art Institute and in 1950 received a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education from the University of Oklahoma. She was an accomplished artist, signing her paintings "D. J. Toner."

She taught school in Braman and Blackwell for seventeen years and as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell taught a Sunday School class for thirty years. She also taught a Bible Study Class at the church.

On December 26, 1946, she and Daniel C. McClung were married and they have tow sons, Mike McClung of Braman, Oklahoma, and Steve McClung of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband; two sons; a sister, Lois Rust of Alva, Oklahoma; and a brother, Edwin Toner of rural Manchester, Oklahoma.

Dorothy's death came after an eight year battle with cancer, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.

Visitation will be all day Tuesday and until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held in the Wakita Cemetery in Wakita, Oklahoma.
