Doris Jean Oder of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday afternoon, June 8, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 80 years.
Doris Jean Oder was born on September 24, 1927, in Belle Plaine, Kansas, to Claude C. and Ruth (Campbell) Connor. She grew up in Belle Plaine until the seventh grade when she moved with her family to Hunnewell, Kansas. They later moved to South Haven, Kansas, where she graduated from high school in 1945. Following her education she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later returned to Hunnewell and on February 4, 1946, she married James Robert Oder in Wellington, Kansas, and they settled in South Haven. In 1950 they moved to Blackwell where she worked for seven years for Blackwell Public Schools in the cafeteria. They later worked for the Corps of Engineers as a gatekeeper for four years in the Sarge Creek area of Kaw Lake. Her husband preceded her in death on June 1, 1992, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell. She also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Johns of Hinesville, Georgia; two sons, Derron Oder of Blackwell and Troy Oder of Jesup, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Oder; a brother, Claude C. Connor; a sister, Claudine Connor; and a grandson, Troy Oder II.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11th, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Larry Adkisson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
