Obituary

Doris Carol Gammill of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday, August 24, 2009, in Richmond, Texas, at the age of 68 years.

Doris Carol Gammill was born on January 3, 1941, in Maysville, Oklahoma, to Argillis William and Letha Maude (Herriage) Winchester. She grew up in Maysville attending Maysville Public Schools graduating in 1959. She furthered her education by attending Murray State Junior College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, and East Central Oklahoma State University in Ada, Oklahoma, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in home economics. Following graduation she taught and coached for two years in the Gate Public Schools in Gate, Oklahoma. She married Ralph Gammill on May 28, 1966, in Purcell, Oklahoma, and they settled in Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended Avila College in Kansas City, Missouri, receiving a degree in elementary education. She then taught elementary school in Kansas City for three years. In 1981 they moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where they purchased the True Value Hardware Store and owned and operated the store for twenty-five years. Following their retirement in October of 2006 they continued to make Blackwell their home. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell. She also held membership in A.B.W.A., Ponca City Evening Quilt Guild, Stamping Club of Blackwell and served on the board of directors for the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Gammill of Blackwell, Oklahoma; her mother, Letha M. Winchester of Purcell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kathleen Noltensmeyer and husband Dan of Richmond, Texas, and Carol Beck and husband Grady of Bermuda Dunes, California; five brothers, Jim Winchester of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Curtis Winchester of Lexington, Oklahoma, Harold Winchester of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Larry Winchester of Marietta, Oklahoma, and Jerry Don Winchester of Marietta, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren, David, Dillon, Dawson and Morgan Noltensmeyer of Richmond, Texas, and Levi, Noah and Zoee Beck of Bermuda Dunes, California.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 28th, in the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Rev. Mike Hughes of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Purcell, Oklahoma, officiating.
Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the Highland Cemetery in Okemah, Oklahoma.

Honorary casketbearers will be Roger Clark, Charles Ray, Steven Royster, Brandon Brown, Larry Wyckoff and Steve Wooderson. Serving as casketbearers will be Jim Winchester, Curtis Winchester, Harold Winchester, Larry Winchester and Jerry Don Winchester.
