Delmer Allen Spencer of Braman, Oklahoma, died early Monday morning, September 5, 2016, in AllianceHealth-Blackwell at the age of 85 years.

Delmer Allen Spencer was born on March 4, 1931, in Braman, Oklahoma, to Elmer B. and Ethel Bell (Arthurs) Spencer. He grew up in Braman attending Braman Public Schools and graduated from Braman High School in 1949. He later attended Tool and Die Trade School in Denver, Colorado. He married Gladys Marie Goodrow on July 11, 1952, in Newkirk, Oklahoma and entered the United States Army on September 10, 1952. In February of 1953 he entered the Korean Conflict where he received several awards including a Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1954. He worked various jobs including painting trailers and working as a carpenter. While in Denver, Colorado, he worked as a counselor in a juvenile hall, for Coors in the porcelain works division and built rock gardens. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he worked as a security guard for Conoco in Ponca City. He later owned and operated E. and S. Automotive , later becoming Spencer Automotive in Braman. He also owned and operated a custom harvest operation, Spencer Farms, and Spencer Pilot Car Service for wide and oversized loads. He retired in 2006. He held membership in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. He also served as a Sunday School teacher in Challis, Idaho, and Blackwell. He enjoyed a variety of fishing including hand fishing, pole fishing, jug lines and limb lines. He also enjoyed hunting deer, rabbits, squirrel and raccoon, as well as drag racing.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Spencer of Braman; three sons, Delmer Spencer Jr. and wife Jacquie of South Haven, Kansas, Jeffery Spencer and wife LaDonna of Braman, and Byron Spencer of Caldwell, Idaho; grandchildren, Tyler Spencer of Braman, Kristopher and Amanda Spencer of Braman, Codey and Kali Spencer of Blackwell, Tiffanie Gray and husband Kevin of Stillwater, Caitlin Svoboda and husband Jordan of Wichita, Kansas, Derrick Spencer of Hampton, Virginia, Jake and Gabby Spencer of Minot, North Dakota, Madison Spencer of Caldwell, Idaho, Danielle Graham and husband Caleb of Amarillo, Texas, Brandon and Caleb Mackeen of Amarillo, Texas, and Carl Mackeen of Braman; and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stuart Allen Spencer; a brother, Burdiss Spencer; and three sisters, Maxine Hoover, Joann Walcher and Delores Adams.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 9th in the First Baptist Church in South Haven, Kansas, with Rev. Kerry Hervey officiating. Military rites will be performed at the church by the United States Army of Ft. Riley, Kansas, and the American Legion. Following the service cremation will be effected with burial later in the Braman Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Tyler Spencer, Kristopher Spencer, Codey Spencer, Derrick Spencer, Tiffanie Gray, Caitlin Svoboda, Madison Spencer, Jake Spencer, Pake Spencer and Timmy Adams. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Bob Arnold, James Grace, Gary Pearson, George Sexton, Merle Walcher, Lee Burris and Darrell Rupe.

A memorial has been established in his honor with Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
