Obituary

Delbert Loren McGaha went to be with our Lord the morning of December 14th, 2025.

He was born February 21st, 1933 in Nardin, Oklahoma to parents Clarence and Hazel McGaha. He was the 4th of 5 children. Growing up he helped his Dad, Grandpa and Uncles Leslie and Earl in the fields on the family farm.

He graduated in 1951 from Blackwell High School.

He worked at Anthony's clothing store and Safeway. He shared a story how some guys would take a break and smoke. He didn't smoke so never took a break. One day he was so tired he decided he would take up smoking so he could take a break. He tried it, coughed a bunch and said "this ain’t for me" and went back in and straight back to work. He'd follow it up with "smoking and drinking just wasn't for me" His family is thankful it wasn't.

Delbert married Georgia June Murphy 7/18/1954 and they raised 4 children. They attended Church of God in Blackwell and were blessed with many years of marriage. He and Georgia worked after their day jobs cleaning the local Blackwell Doctor and Dentist offices to earn extra money. The kids learned good work ethic along with having some fun running the floor buffer machine.

Delbert pursued a career as a Life & Accident Insurance salesmen. He knew how important it is to provide security for your loved ones. He started off as a salesman knocking on doors and sharing the importance and selling insurance to many families. He worked diligently and won trophy's and awards as a leading agent in Enid & Mid-West Region. His hard work led to winning vacation trips to several places around the world.

Unfortunately after many years of marriage it ended, yet they stayed friends for the children.

He met another precious woman, Cecelia and they married 12/31/1972. They moved to Stillwater where he continued his education and was promoted to Area Manager at National Life and Accident.

He and our family were blessed to have two precious women in his life that got along so wonderfully. They enjoyed having large family get togethers on holidays with children and grandchildren. He was a father figure to our younger brother. Cecelia's son, wife and grandchildren added to his blessing.

He and Cecelia had a garden for many years. He loved teaching the grandkids how to garden. They even sold tomatoes to grocery stores in Stillwater. Whether it was friends or family, there was always a game of Dominos when you'd visit. Even when they went for a visit, he'd pull out the traveling Dominos, grab a scrap of paper and put our names on it to keep score. Chicken foot was a favorite and so much fun!

Delbert & Cecelia attended First Christian Church and were active in Sunday School and activities like Relay for Life since he was a 17 year kidney cancer survivor. He helped park cars in the Church parking lot for OSU ball games. He enjoyed watching sports on tv and interesting programs. When a good program came on, he would call one of us girls and tell us what channel it was on. He said, I'll call Sharon and Ronda you call Tami. He alternated between us girls and which one would call each other. We looked forward to that phone call every week.

As years passed, a new joy was visiting surrounding town's senior centers. Listen to local musicians play and everyone brought a dish for a pot luck supper.

Every morning it was off to McDonalds for coffee and visit with fellow friends then back home with 2 cheeseburgers for their lunch.

Delbert found joy in helping others. It may have been a small donation, but it grew to over 100 charities. The more he gave, the more mail would come... and we all knew how high the mail piled up!

After his wife, Cecelia passed in 2018 he fell and broke his femur. He had surgery and during rehab, covid hit so he went to live with his daughter Ronda and husband Tom. It was great to be close to all his kids. His strength got better so he moved to Owasso Baptist Village independent living. Perfect as he had the best of everything. Socializing with fellow residents and staff. Dominos, bingo, trivia and great food made it all wonderful. Oh yes, and the ice cream! If you knew Delbert very well, you knew he had a bowl of ice cream 'Every Night' about 8pm. After get togethers, he said "keep your fork-there's cake"

A few of his favorite sayings: When it was a tough situation, he wouldn't complain. He'd say "You gotta do what you gotta do" & "Take it one day at a time". Good day or bad, he'd say "Momma said there'd be days like these"

If you had a lot to do he reassured you, "Do what you can and let the rest slide" "It'll be there tomorrow."

He always had a kind word and a joke for the day. His answer to How are you feeling? He'd lift his hands and say with a grin.. "With my 8 fingers and 2 thumbs"

If you asked, How are you doing? His answer was, about 80%..... After ice cream and cake it was 90%

Delbert touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
