David Michael Schmidt Sr. of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 50 years.
David Michael Schmidt was born on October 12, 1960, in Fullerton, California. He was the son of Overton Jr. and Pearl (Gaconnet). He grew in California until age 9 when he moved with his family to Hondo, Texas, where he attended Hondo Public Schools and graduated from Hondo High School in 1979. He then began working as a custom harvester and after harvest he moved to Garden City, Kansas, where he began working at I.B.P. as a quality control meat inspector. On January 22, 1982, he married Lucille Marie Jones in Garden City, Kansas and they settled in Garden City, Kansas. In 1983 they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked as a supervisor at a country club. They later moved to Hondo, Texas, and in 1989 they moved back to Garden City, Kansas, where he worked in construction and had a lawn care business there until 2011, when they moved to Wichita, Kansas, and in 2012 they moved to Blackwell. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille M. Schmidt of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, David Schmidt Jr. and wife Katelyn of Hays, Kansas, and Kyle Schmidt and wife Candice of Hugoton, Kansas; two brothers, Overton Schmidt III of Kingbird, California, and Steve Schmidt of Riverside, California; and three grandchildren, Karsyn, Konyr, and Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church.
