David Walter Mardis of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 12, 2009, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 52 years.
David Walter Mardis was born on August 20, 1957, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He was the son of John and Lola (Dotson) Mardis. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School in 1975. He then began working for OG&E as an operator. In 1976 he married Melody Rollins and they made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. In 1986 he went to work for Parkem in Blackwell for five years. He then went to Okmulgee Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where he received his associate's degree. After his education he then moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked for Explorer Oil and Gas for a short time, he then moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and began working for an Aviation Simulation company. He then moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, and began working for Conoco in Construction and Rice Construction Company. He later went to work for Veolia Water Company in Blackwell. He loved to play the drums and guitar and he played in the band with his father. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and jet skiing.
He is survived by his mother, Lola Mardis of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Shelly Marie Scott and husband Darrell of White Oak, Texas; two brothers, Clint A. Mardis of Bethalto, Illinois, and Jeffrey L. Mardis of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Virginia Mardis Bradley of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John C. Mardis; and a brother, Ricky A. Mardis.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17th in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Kevin Bookout of the First Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Darrell Scott, Jeff Mardis, Clint Mardis, Jerry Bradley, Bart Sewell and Jeron Sewell. Casketbearers will be Chris Scott, Erick Scott, Greg Mardis, Ryan Mardis, Darren Oxford and Derek Hurst.
