Dan Walter of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday afternoon, April 20, 2018, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 82 years.

Dan Walter was born on September 7, 1935, in Oklahoma City to Henry Brown and Margaret M. (Lesher) Walter. He grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1953. He furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma before joining the United States Navy in 1956. He was honorably discharged in July of 1960. Following his discharge he began working for the Federal Aviation Administration as a computer technician at the Air Route Traffic Control Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He married Deana Padgett on May 27, 1967, in Oklahoma City and they made Albuquerque their home until his retirement in 1990. They moved to Blackwell to make their home in 2004. He was an avid stamp collector and collected many books on the Colorado railroad history. As a teenager he enjoyed four-wheeling the mountain passes in Colorado and camping with his father near Gunnison, Colorado. He was a member of the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church and a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Colorado Railroad Museum. He also held membership in the American Philatelic Society and the Wichita Philatelic Society.

He is survived by his wife, Deana Walter of Blackwell; a daughter, Terri Bruner and husband Dan of Yukon; two sons, Danny Walter and wife Gayle of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Dusty Walter and wife Rita of Cresbard, South Dakota; a sister, Connie Johnson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, D. J. Bruner and wife Amanda, Tiffany Bruner Simonson and husband James, Kami Moore, Kristi Cravens and husband Chance, Warren Walter, Cory Walter and Ethan Walter; and eight great grandchildren, Slayton and Harper Bruner, Christopher, Emma and Joshua Moore, Gunner and Anna Cravens, and Braydon Simonson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great grandchild, Paisley Simonson.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 26 ^th in the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Harris officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.

Casketbearers will be Joseph Stroud, Larry Sneath, Roger Allen, DeWayne Muret, Doug Flink and Gary Tucker.
