Obituary

Clifford L. Coursey of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday, August 4, 2008, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 74 years after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Clifford L. Coursey was born on July 17, 1934, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to George Lemuel "Lem" and Flora Aloise "Lois" (McConnell) Coursey. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School in 1953. On September 6, 1954, he married Peggy Ann Clinton and they made their home in Blackwell. In 1953 he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company where he worked for twenty years. He then began to work for the Wonder Bread Company for two years before moving to Artesia, New Mexico, where he owned and operated a Sonic Drive-In for four years. He then began working for the Navajo Oil Company in Artesia, New Mexico, retiring after fifteen years. Clifford served in the National Guard 189th Artillery from 1957 – 1960. Clifford enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, playing Nintendo, dancing, and playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Peggy Coursey of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three daughters, Terrie Groeneman and husband Mark of Houston, Texas, Tonya Holley and husband Sam of Trophy Club, Texas, and Vonette McGrogan and husband Joe of Santa Cruz, California; three sons, Rick Coursey and wife Sherry of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Clint Coursey and wife Pam of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Bill Coursey of Vinita, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Coursey of Loomis, California; and one sister, Carol Hankins of Centerville, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Helen Stone and Nancy Dickelman

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Larry Adkisson officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be his grandsons, Derick Coursey, Aaron Coursey, Trice Groeneman, Dusty Crow, Corey Crow, and Chase Meadows.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established at the Image Hospice of Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
