Obituary

Charles Eugene Martin of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, July 25, 2016, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 79 years.

Charles Eugene Martin was born on April 23, 1937, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, to Joel H. and Della Marie (Higgins) Martin. He grew up in Holdenville and at the age of eleven moved with his family to Blackwell where he attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School. Following his education he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company. He married Sondra Lou Richmond on July 6, 1957, in Enid, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where he continued working at the smelter. After sixteen years he began working for the Oklahoma State Highway Department on the survey crew and later worked in the refinery for Conoco-Phillips until his retirement. During his life he also worked to install wood and chain link fences for many families in the area. He was a member of the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers Union and attended the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. He enjoyed playing golf, card games, dominos and bingo. He served as a little league umpire for many years. He was an Oklahoma State Cowboys and Oklahoma City Thunder fan.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra Martin of Blackwell; a son, Chuck Martin of Ponca City; a daughter, Tawnya Martin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Joel Martin and wife Florence of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Ann Martin of Ponca City and Rebecca Winkle and husband Wayne of Ponca City; a brother-in-law, Steve Davis and wife Mary of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin brothers, Hugh and John Martin.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Randy Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Don Sprueill, Warren White, Larry Myers, Jeremy Zaitshik, Ethan Zaitshik and Aaron Zaitshik.

Memorials have been established in his honor with the First Baptist Church, Hospice of North Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for lung research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
