Obituary

Cecil Day of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 83.

Cecil LaVerne Day was born on October 8, 1942, in Waynoka, OK. He was the son of Wilbert and Juanita (Withrow) Day. He grew up on a farm outside Waynoka, attending West Liberty and Rose Valley country schools before moving to Waynoka schools, where he graduated in 1960. After high school, Cecil joined the United States Air Force, where he served four years as a jet mechanic.

He married Beverly Jean Slaughter on April 27, 1968, in Woodward, Oklahoma. They moved to Hooker, Oklahoma, in 1969, where Cecil worked as a lineman for Tri-County Electric. During that time, he also coached an American Legion baseball team, mentoring young athletes. Both of their children were born while living in Hooker. They moved their family to Blackwell, Oklahoma, in 1977, when he began working as an electrician with Cities Service. He served in that capacity for 22 years, as the company transitioned to Williams Natural Gas and then Southern Star, until he retired in 1999.

For a large part of his life, Cecil enjoyed golfing, bowling, umpiring, and playing softball. Much of his retirement years included time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing pool with friends, and watching westerns and sports with his wife. He spent many years serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church. In 2013, Cecil and his wife became members of the Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herschel Day.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Day of Blackwell; one son, Paul Day and wife Ginger of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kathleen Swain and husband David of Blackwell; four grandchildren: Jessica Swain, Ashley Day, Josh Swain and wife Heather, and Blake Day and wife Beth; four great-children: Rhylee and Brekken Swain, and Bella and Bentley Day; one step-granddaughter Hannah Sanford and her son Aaspen Sanford; one sister, Patricia Klinglesmith; and five nieces.

Visitation will be held at Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 1:00 - 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2026. Another visitation will be held from 1:00 - 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 22, with a family gathering from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

Services will be held at Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma, on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 10:00 am, with Rev. Kevin Bookout officiating. Burial to follow at Blackwell Cemetery.
