Obituary

Carolyn Sue Johnson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday afternoon, October 6, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 65 years.

Carolyn Sue Johnson was born on September 30, 1943, in Lodi, California, to Joe and Thelma Inez (Standridge) Norton. As a young girl she moved with her family to Arkansas before moving to Cushing, Oklahoma, and later Stillwater, Oklahoma. They later moved to Blackwell where she grew up attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School in 1962. She married Joseph Rex Johnson on March 15, 1962, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell. In 1975 she attended Ponca City Beauty College receiving her beautician license and operating her own beauty shop for thirty three years. She then began working as an instructor at the Ponca City Beauty College for eight years. Her husband preceded her in death in 2004 and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed fishing, camping and taking vacations with her family. She also enjoyed family gatherings especially those that included her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny Vannatta of Blackwell, Oklahoma; her son, Mark Johnson of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a brother, Bill Norton and wife Betty of Baldwin, Kansas; two sisters, Elta Mae Weigle of Moore, Oklahoma, and Dianna Holland and husband Fred of Blackwell, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jessica Johnson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Megan Duncan and husband Alonzo of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Lindsey Vannatta, Staci Vanatta, Charity Johnson, Joseph Johnson and Shannon Johnson all of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Arthar Morris of Ponca City, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Billy and Kathryn Russell family, Jackie Russell family and Kirk Russell family; two great granddaughters, Allison Duncan of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Keira Caroline Da' Sha Vannatta of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Jenice Robinson and Mary Rose Roundtree.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 13th, in the First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Bill McKissick officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Serving as honorary casketbearers will be the grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
