Obituary

Bonnie Jean Stevens of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday afternoon, June 20, 2012, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 80 years.

Bonnie Jean Stevens was born on August 27, 1931, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to John Hamilton and Minnie Jane (Lay) Dotson. As a young girl she moved with her family to Hominy, Oklahoma, before moving to Blackwell in 1934. She attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School in 1949. She then furthered her education by receiving nurse's training through the Blackwell Hospital. She married Vernon Eugene Raper in December of 1949 in Newkirk and they made Blackwell their home. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants in Blackwell before working as a nurse's aide for Blackwell Nursing Home and Blackwell General Hospital. Her husband preceded her in death in 1959. On June 14, 1974 she married William Warren Stevens in Winfield, Kansas, and they settled in various communities in Eastern Oklahoma. Following his retirement in 1993 they enjoyed traveling across the United States in their R.V. He preceded her in death in 1999 and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the Full Gospel Fellowship in Ponca City. She enjoyed all family gatherings including family reunions and sing-a-longs. She also loved to play board games with family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Rhea and husband James of Nardin, Oklahoma, Teresa Clay and husband Kenny of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Charlene Ridgway and husband Gary of Aberdeen, Washington; two step-daughters, Kathy McBride and husband Doug of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Tammy Stevens of Wichita, Kansas; two step-sons, Warren Stevens of Bristow, Oklahoma, and Carl Stevens of Arkansas City, Kansas; a sister, Lola Mardis of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a brother, J. D. Dotson and wife Arlene of Skiatook, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23rd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Larry Ellis of the Claremore Assembly of God officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

The grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary casketbearers. Derek Hurst, Luke Hurst, Justin Hurst, David Holden, Jim McBride and Tim McBride will serve as casketbearers.

A memorial has been established in her honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
