Blanche Louetta Pontius of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, February 21, 2013, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 92 years.
Blanche Louetta Pontius was born on October 15, 1920, in Blackwell to Joel E. and Bessie L. (Hummel) Stout. She grew up in Newkirk, Oklahoma, attending Newkirk Public Schools. Following her education she married Ray Alvin Pontius on May 2, 1940, in Jay, Oklahoma, and they settled in Peckham. In 1947, they moved to Blackwell and she later worked for several years as the head dietician for the Blackwell Public Schools retiring in the mid 1970's. Her husband preceded her in death on October 3, 1996, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rebekahs and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by three daughters, Edna Maxine and Roy Netz of Flora, Mississippi, Judy Gayle and Bill Docking of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Jo Ann Smith of Blackwell; three sons, Dale R. and Londa Pontius of Haslet, Texas, Eldon G. Pontius of Cadiz, Kentucky, and Dennis L. and Debbie Pontius of Noble, Oklahoma; a sister, Emma Lee Collingsworth of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Cheryn Baker, Tara and Judd Burkett, Kelly and Melissa Collyar, Ruthie Docking, Toni and Eddie Eckart, Jake and Christy Olsen, Brandon Pontius, Chad and Michelle Pontius, Krista and Edward Sanders, Amy and Justin Smith, and Jennifer and Rick Worley; and twenty great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alva R. Stout; three sisters, Elsie M. Stark, Edna LaVerna Klein and Dollie Harrell; granddaughter, Kristy Rae Collyar; daughter-in-law, Alicia Pontius; and son-in-law, John R. Smith.
Services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Monday, February 25th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Judd Burkett, Kelly Collyar, Eddie Eckart, Jake Olsen, Brandon Pontius, Chad Pontius, Edward Sanders, Justin Smith and Rick Worley.
