Billy Joe Morton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday afternoon, September 6th, in the Oklahoma City Alliance Health Hospital at the age of 76 years.
Billy Joe Morton was born on November 18, 1938, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Joseph C. and Olean Pearl (Keith) Morton. He attended Blackwell Public Schools and was in the high school band. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1956 and transferred to the United States Navy in 1958, where he was a submariner. He was honorably discharged on June 14, 1963. He married Mary T. High in California and she preceded him in death. He worked in the oilfield, as a boiler maker at LA Boiler Works and as a volunteer fireman. He was a HAM radio operator and a member of REACT (storm chasers).
He is survived by two daughters, Ginger Sanford of Ponca City, and Billie Joe "BJ" Morton of Ponca City; two sons, James Morton of Blackwell, and Joseph Morton and wife Bonnie of Blackwell; six grandchildren, Shane Sanford, Clarissa M. Bryant, Paige Morton, Joe Tomas, Hannah Renea Sanford and Ashley H. Roach; and three great grandchildren, Tinlie Bryant, Bo Bryant and Layken Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with President Bryant Hardy officiating.
