Obituary

Billy B. Butler of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday evening, January 5, 2011, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Billy B. Butler was born on March 30, 1929, in Robinson, Illinois, to Roscoe William and Mary Opal (Crampton) Butler. He grew up attending New Hebron School and Robinson Public Schools. Following his education he entered the United States Army on August 16, 1948, at Ft. Knox and served during the Korean Conflict. While in the service he married Vivian Dix on July 9, 1949, in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey. Following his discharge on July 26, 1951, they returned to Robinson, Illinois, and he began working at a movie theater. He later worked for the Bradford Supply Company as a night watchman and WTAY radio station as a newscaster. In August of 1956 they moved to Blackwell and he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company in the maintenance department as an electrician and worked there until the plant closed. He then worked for the Speed King Corporation and for C.F.M. Foundry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was active in the JOY Group and the Thursday morning men's prayer group. He also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Blackwell Police Reserves, Rollin' Rockers Camping Club and the Kansas Old-Time Fiddler's Club in Arkansas City, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Vivian Butler of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and a son, Franklin Butler of Wellington, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Butler; and a son, Billy Gene Butler.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:30 Saturday, January 8, 2011, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Mark Meader officiating with military rites performed by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery in Robinson, Illinois.

Honorary casketbearers will be Don Vickers, Cecil Day and Bob Noblet.
