Betty Lou Whitehead of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, February 9, 2009, in the Ponca City Medical Center in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 82 years.
Betty Lou Whitehead was born on December 30, 1926, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Alfred Don and Beulah C. (Epperly) Henry. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1944. Following her education she worked at the Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant and Kress Department Store in Blackwell. She married Walter Lawrence Whitehead on August 4, 1950, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1970 she began working as a certified nursing assistant at the Blackwell Nursing Home and worked there until her retirement in 2001. Her husband preceded her in death on August 5, 1993, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.
She is survived by three sons, Mike Whitehead of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Terry Whitehead of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and John Whitehead of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter, Janelle Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister, Stella Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Donald Henry of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Richard Henry of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Bobby Henry of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Kristen and Mark Stucky, David and Shawna Stucky, Dustin Stucky, Jennifer and Jason Turner, Adam and Jennifer Whitehead, Candace Holden, Jeff Whitehead and Terri Whitehead; and great grandchildren, Dakota and Brent Turner, Connor Holden, Dillion, Brian and Ciara Whitehead, Justin Lemming, Andrew and Katie Scott and Alex Stucky.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Whitehead; three sisters, June, Kathryn and Joyce; and a brother, Alfred.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 16th in the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell with the Rev. Andy Teston officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
