Obituary

Betty Jean Jewsbury of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday, January 2, 2015, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 91 years.

Betty Jean Jewsbury was born on November 26, 1923, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Thomas Irving and Nettie B. (Miller) Seeger. She grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating with the class of 1941. She married Edwin Calvin Jewsbury Jr. on July 8, 1942, in Anthony, Kansas, and during World War II she joined him in California when she could. Following the war, they settled in San Diego, California, where she worked as the registrar for Mission Bay High School for a number of years. They later moved to Blackwell to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death in 1999 and she continued living in Blackwell. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Marie Jewsbury; a sister, Edith Stewart of Ponca City; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Marguerite London, Merlee Wall and Georgia Flaherty.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 9th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ned Moerbe of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74361.
