Obituary

Betty Jean Bishop of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, in the Bass Memorial Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years.

Betty Jean Bishop was born on March 17, 1928, on the family farm near Byron, Oklahoma, to Walter Oliver and Eva Susan (Goff) Ellington. At the age of three she moved with her family to Anthony, Kansas, where she attended Anthony Public Schools graduating from Anthony High School in 1946. She married Orvil Dean Bishop on September 1, 1946, in Wellington, Kansas, and they settled in Anthony for a short time before moving to Blackwell, Oklahoma. While in Blackwell she worked for the Wilt Grocery Store, C. R. Anthony's and Ritchie's Shoe Store. In 1972 they moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and she served her family as a homemaker. In 1986 they returned to Blackwell to make their home and she continued as a homemaker. She was baptized in the First Christian Church of Blackwell. She enjoyed collecting various types of ceramics, cooking and sewing.

She is survived by her husband, Orvil D. Bishop of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, Steven Bishop of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Michael Bishop of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Juanita Armstrong of Nowata, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Marvin Ellington.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24th in the Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony, Kansas, with James W. Roberts of Blackwell officiating. The eulogy will be given by Saqib Khan. Burial will follow in the Forest Park Cemetery.
