Obituary

Bessie Marie Stilwell of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Tuesday morning, September 7, 2010, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 89 years.

Bessie Marie Stilwell was born on May 13, 1921, in Edmond, Oklahoma, to Otto and Mary Catherine (Dale) Eckert. She grew up on a farm near Edmond attending rural school. Following her education she worked on the family farm. She married Cecil J. Stilwell on April 14, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas, and they settled in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where she worked for the JWPA government project in Guthrie. In 1949 they moved to McPherson, Kansas, until 1961 when they move to Blackwell and served her family as a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on September 10, 2000, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Varner of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Randie Anderson and husband Rocky of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Steve Varner of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and Kristi Cantwell and husband Chuck of Eagle, Idaho; eleven great grandchildren, AnaLisha Hebron and husband Seth of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, Cpl. Matthew Anderson of South Korea, Trevor Anderson of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Taylor Stilwell Varner of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Alexa Varner and John Varner of Eagle, Idaho, Amber, Brannon and Brayden Cantwell of Eagle, Idaho, and Sarah and Joshua Dickson of Dallas, Texas; and her best buddy, Charlie Terrell of Blackwell, Oklahoma.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David and Kenneth Stilwell; two grandchildren, JoDon Stilwell and JoAnna Dickson; four brothers; and six sisters.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Mark Meador of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Greg Armstrong, Bruce Dale, Charlie Terrell, Glenn Terrell, Tim Grove and Chris Fetters. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be the great grandchildren of Bessie Stilwell.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the American Diabetes Association in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
