Benjamin E. Frohock of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, July 25, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 92 years.
Benjamin E. Frohock was born on September 20, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois, to Benjamin H. and Laura (Meires) Frohock. At the age of three he moved with his family to Blackwell where he grew up and attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. While in high school he was active on the high school boxing team and was the first violinist in the city orchestra. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa and later Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Following college he joined his father as a partner in Frohock Planning Mill and Lumber Company. Together they constructed homes, barns, built cabinets and performed remodeling and finish work. They made anything from wood and if something special was needed, they could fashion it. Among his many accomplishments was constructing the Blackwell Youth Center. He married Wilma Faye Schurter on January 30, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. His wife preceded him in death on February 14, 2007, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell where he served on various committees. He also held membership in the Masonic Lodge where he was a 32ndDdegree Mason, the Blackwell Chamber of Commerce, the Elk's Lodge, Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed flying airplanes, fishing and hunting. He also was a founder of the Blackwell Little League Baseball Association.
He is survived by three daughters, Laurell K. Stevens and husband Phil of Cedar Hills, Texas, Loretta Smith of Blackwell, and Suzanne Robinson of Plano, Texas; a son, Ron Frohock and wife Twila Jean of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren, Gregg Jewsbury of Elkins, Arkansas, Brian Frohock of Plano, Texas, Marci Garcia of Plano, Texas, D'Lynn Avila of Murphy, Texas, and Stacy Robinson of Springfield, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Preston and Chloe Frohock of Plano, Texas, and Rafael Garcia of Plano, Texas;and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Linda Jewsbury and Lee Stevens; and a dear friend, co-worker and fishing and hunting buddy, Paul Bersche.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 28th, in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Russell Bracy of Ft. Worth, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers will be grandsons, Gregg Jewsbury, Brian Frohock, Stacy Robinson, Luis Garcia and Irving Avila
Honorary casketbearers will be the Kiwanis Club and the Kum Dubl Sunday School Class.
A memorial has been established at the First United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
The family will be gathering at the home of Loretta Smith, 16101 W. Ferguson, Blackwell, Oklahoma.
