Avis Ann Gribble of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, March 26, 2010, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 90 years.
Avis Ann Gribble was born on August 16, 1919, in Fall River, Kansas, to T. J. and Alta Alice (Von Umdenstock) Kimmel. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas attending Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1936. She furthered her education by attending Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, receiving her teaching certification. Following her education she moved to Painesville, Ohio, where she taught second grade in the Painesville Public Schools. She married Jollie M. Gribble on October 1, 1950, in Painesville, Ohio, and they settled in Painesville where she continued her teaching career. Following her husband's retirement in 1970, they moved to Blackwell to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on February 19, 1990, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. She also worked as a volunteer for the Blackwell Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and bird watching.
She is survived by her sister, Alice Hart of Wichita, Kansas; her brother, Bud Kimmel of El Mirage, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by parents; and a sister, Joyce Appleby.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 29th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
