Claude David Sodowsky of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 91 years.
Claude David Sodowsky was born on March 27, 1922, on the family farm south of Blackwell to Arch and Ruth Sodowsky. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1941. While in high school he was crowned a state wrestling champion his senior season. He entered the United States Navy on January 7, 1943, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned home and began working for Conoco in Ponca City. He married Betty Ruth Jones Robinson on October 10, 1970, in Blackwell. He retired from Conoco after thirty years of service. Following retirement he turned the family farming operation into a full time occupation and hobby. He loved boating, farming and his many dogs and cats.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Betty Sodowsky of Tonkawa; a sister, Florence Oxford of Enid, Oklahoma; children, Connie and Don Gilbert of Derby, Kansas, and Lance and Sherry Elmore of Benton, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Florence Keeley; and a brother, Clyde Sodowsky.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 29th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Richard Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy.
Casketbearers will be Kenny Evans, Stan Keeley, Tom Keeley, Neil Oxford, Scot Oxford and Gary Sodowsky.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Crippled American Veterans in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
