Philip Duane Tannehill was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on December 29, 1948 to Ted R. and Opal Loraine (Harris) Tannehill and departed this life surrounded by family at 11:45 p.m. March 23, 2012.
He grew up on a farm northwest of Blackwell attending Bethel Rural School. He also attended elementary grades in Liberal, Kansas and Argonia, Kansas before finishing his education at Blackwell High School.
On January 18, 1967, he entered the United States Army, serving from January 1968 to December 1968 in Vietnam attaining the rank of SP4. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1969.
Philip married Randy Auld in January of 1976 and two sons were born to that union, Dane Michael and Rhett Brady.
During his life, he was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for numerous entities. He also was employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections for several years. He was currently involved in the trucking industry as the owner and operator of Tannehill Transportation, LLC.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2855, the American Legion Post #7 and the Moose Lodge of Ponca City. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1347 serving as Exalted Ruler and was currently on the Board of Trustees.
Philip enjoyed motorcycle riding with friends and playing bass guitar with the Jam Band. His other activities included being a member of the bowling team. From youth he was very faithful to God, country, family and friends.
Philip is survived by his sons, Dane Michael Tannehill, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rhett Brady, wife Ashley and, grandson, Mason Brady Tannehill, Grove, Oklahoma, step children, Kara Gates and husband Brad, Grove, Oklahoma and Wade Logue and wife Sarah, Grove, Oklahoma, step grandchildren, Gage and Ezra Gates and Kenlee, Conley and Kolbie Logue, a sister, Myrna Oldham and husband Dexter, Blackwell, Oklahoma, a brother, Rod Tannehill and wife Deanna, Arkansas City, Kansas. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, a large extended family and a multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Teddy Joe Tannehill.
A celebration of life will be held at the Roberts & Son Chapel on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gib Clark of Kiowa, Kansas officiating.
Honorary casketbearers will be his many friends.
