Richard Patrick Sawyers

Richard Patrick Sawyers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday, March 12, 2012, in the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 49 years.

Richard Patrick Sawyers was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on February 3, 1963, to Robert L. and Barbara S. (Honeycutt) Sawyers. He grew up in Ponca City attending Ponca City Public Schools graduating from Ponca City High School in 1981. Following his education he entered the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany for three years. Following his discharge he returned back to Blackwell where he entered the United States Army Reserves serving for four years. He furthered his education at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, studying psychology. He then went to work in Ponca City at the Conoco Convenience Store in the marketing department before moving to Colorado where he worked in construction for a year. He then traveled to Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas working in the construction and oil industries. In 2007 he moved back to Blackwell and met his fiancé Coleen Blevins. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing and taking car of animals. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He attended the Braman Methodist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Jr, and Barbara Sawyers of Ponca City, Oklahoma; his fiancé Coleen Blevins of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one daughter, Ashly Dawn Sawyers of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one son, Sean Michael Sawyers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Jaxon Hernandez of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Dexter Ryan Sawyers of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Lily Sawyers of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; a brother, Danny Sawyers of Greenly, Colorado; a sister, Shannon Burdick of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15th in the Braman Methodist Church in Braman, Oklahoma, with Rev. C. M. Wilson of the Braman Methodist Church officiating.

Memorials may be made to your local humane society in memory of Richard Sawyers.
